Public Entity Risk Institute (PERI)
The Public Entity Risk Institute (PERI) is a non-profit organization established to advance the practice of risk management in local governments and non-profit entities.  PERI maintains a training site as a service to its constituents, to disseminate a broad range of useful, practical risk management information as widely and as inexpensively as possible.

Their goal is to connect you to the knowledge, resources, and information that will help you address your risk management challenges. Nonprofit Risk Management Center
The Nonprofit Risk Management Center was established to provide assistance and resources to community serving organizations, including public entities.  Their mission is to help you cope with uncertainty on a vast array of risk management topics.  How do they help?

  • They produce affordable, easy-to-read publications. Some are even Free!
  • They publish a Risk Management Essentials newsletter which is distributed three times a year – also Free!
  • Following are some of the topics they provide training for:  Accident response, Basic Risk Management Skills, Business Continuity Planning, Volunteer Risk Management, Financial Risk Management, and Workplace Safety.
  • They accomplish and provide the above via webinars, online tools, and an online library.

Police / Law Enforcement
The Ohio Peace Officer and Training Academy (OPOTA) is dedicated to making quality, affordable advanced training available to all Ohio law enforcement officers. To that end, OPOTA has created eOPOTA, a free online alternative to traditional training. Officers can take select training courses at the eOPOTA Web site and new course offerings will be added to eOPOTA throughout the year.

Fire / EMS
The United States Fire Administration (USFA) is providing Coffee Break Training bulletins for you to read. These one-page training notices, posted every Tuesday, provide technical training in fire protection systems, building construction, codes and standards, inspection techniques, hazardous materials and administrative tips. Parks & Playgrounds

Street & Road Departments

Libraries

General Employee Safety Training
The Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation (Ohio BWC) has a Division of Safety & Hygiene which in turn maintains a training center that offers a continuing education facility specializing in occupational safety and health, provides you with the knowledge, tools and skills you need to prevent occupational injuries and illness. Public Utilities
The Ohio Rural Water Association (ORWA) offers online e-Learning training at http://www.ohiowater.org/ORWA/pages/CourseCatalog.htm. This web-based operator certification and license renewal training provides employers and their employees the flexibility to take training courses at their own pace without the hassle and cost of attending live classes.

The Ohio Rural Community Assistance Program (RCAP) offers continuous training opportunities throughout the State.  While these training classes must be attended in person, the courses are provided at NO COST to the participants by the Ohio EPA Division of Drinking and Ground Waters.  Courses are generally approved for 5.0 Ohio EPA contact hours each. American Municipal Power - Ohio (AMP) offers its member communities and those who are not members a variety of services that will help them improve the quality of Municipal Utility services to their customers. Included in these services are various Safety Programs.  They include subjects such as: General Safety Training, OHSA Compliance Training, CPR Training and Flagger Training.  Additional information can be found at http://www.amp-ohio.org/services.html .

Approved Environment, Inc. is an approved training provider in Ohio for providing online continuing education for water and wastewater certification.  They offer 33 online continuing education courses.  More detailed information on these offerings can be found at http://www.approvedce.com/ .
